BELOW THE SURFACE

My work in the water began in my backyard pool with nothing more than a camera and a ziplock bag. There is something about being in the water that not only resonates with me, but inspires, awakens and encourages me to keep returning....

I have been working in the water for a few years, and have noticed the dynamic interaction between people and water. At first they are not sure about what I am doing or what I want them to do, but the calming characteristics of the water allows people to shed their inhibitions and let go of expectations. They no longer aspire to be something other than themselves. That’s when the magic happens. I recently read a quote that helps summarize my thoughts about working in the water. “There’s nothing wrong with enjoying looking at the surface of the ocean itself, except that when you finally see what goes on underwater, you realize that you’ve been missing the whole point of the ocean. Staying on the surface all the time is like going to the circus and staring at the outside of the tent”. Dave Berry. There is something magical that happens below the surface and my hope is that by viewing my images that it will inspire you to look beyond the surface.
